Why do I see a blank page when I try to access a topic?
Please note that on some computers it may take a minute for UpToDate
online to load when starting the first session. If after this time a
blank page is still present, emptying the browser's cache will usually
solve the problem. Instructions on how to empty the browser's cache are
found below.
If using Internet Explorer 6:
From the Tools menu select Internet
Options
Make sure the General tab is selected
Under the heading Temporary Internet Files
click on the button marked Delete Files...
Check the box next to Delete all offline
content
Click OK (or Yes), then
click OK again
If using Internet Explorer 7:
From the Tools menu select Internet
Options
Make sure the General tab is selected
Click on Delete Browsing History
Choose to delete cookies, history, and temporary
files
If using Mozilla Firefox:
From the Tools menu choose Options
Click on the Privacy tab
Click on the Clear Now button
Select Browsing History, Cache, and Cookies
as shown below.
Click on Clear Private Data Now
Click the OK button
If using Opera:
From the Tools menu choose Preferences
Click the Advanced tab
Click the History option in the left column

Click the Empty now button
Click the OK button
If using Safari (Windows)
To clear the cache on Safari when using a Windows computer,
please follow the steps below:
Open Safari
Click Edit
Click Empty Cache
Click Empty to confirm
Click Edit once more
Click Preferences
Click Show Cookies
Type uptodate
Click Remove all to discard any UpToDate
cookies remaining on the browser
Click Done
Close Safari
Reopen Safari, clear the address box, and enter
www.uptodate.com (do not use any bookmarks, shortcuts, or favorites)
You should now be able to log in to UpToDate and use the web site.
If using Safari (Macintosh)
To clear the cache on Safari when using a Macintosh computer,
please follow the steps below:
Open Safari
Click Safari next to the Apple symbol
Click Empty cache
Confirm the process
Click Safari once more
Click Preferences
Click on the Security tab
Click Show Cookies
Type uptodate
Click Remove all to discard any UpToDate
cookies remaining on the browser
Click Done
Close Safari
Reopen Safari, clear the address box, and enter
www.uptodate.com (do not use any bookmarks, shortcuts, or favorites)
You should now be able to log in to UpToDate and use the web site.
Why did I receive the error message "Cookies must be enabled to
view this page"?
To use UpToDate online, cookies must be enabled in the
browser.
Cookies make it more convenient for individuals to navigate a web
site by allowing them to visit pages within a site without having to
reintroduce themselves with each mouse click. Cookies do not have the
capability of infiltrating a user's hard drive and sneaking away with
personal information. The simple function of a cookie is that of helping
the individual navigate a web site with as little obstruction as
possible.
Cookies are small data structures used by a web site (server) to:
Deliver data to a web client (user).
Request that the client store the information.
In certain circumstances, return the information to the web
site.
To Enable Cookies:
Internet Explorer 6 and 7:
From the Tools menu, click Internet
Options
Click the Privacy tab
Change the Setting to Medium High or lower
Click the Apply button, then click the OK
button
Mozilla Firefox:
From the Tools menu, click on Options
Click on the Privacy tab
Select Accept cookies from sites
Click OK
Opera:
From the Tools menu, choose Preferences
Click on the Advanced tab
Select Accept cookies
Click OK
Safari:
Open Safari
Do one of the following, as appropriate:
Windows — Click Edit
Macintosh — Click Safari
